Inside Line Promotions – BRANDON, S.D. (Aug. 25, 2021) – Jason Sides is racing in three different states this week during a trio of World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series races.
It begins on Wednesday at River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks, N.D., for the Gerdau presents the Second Leg of the Northern Tour. That event was scheduled for last Friday, but was postponed because of rain. Following the trip to North Dakota is a race on Friday at I-80 Speedway in Greenwood, Neb., for the FVP Platinum Battery Showdown. The week concludes on Sunday at Black Hills Speedway in Rapid City, S.D., for the Rushmore Outlaw Showdown.
“It’ll be a busy next few days,” he said. “It’s a little tough because we’re going back and forth to Sioux Falls each night after the races. We’re trying to get everything ready for each day. Then I’m looking forward to getting out to Skagit next week. We haven’t been there for awhile and Kimball from WTS is coming out there so I’m looking forward to seeing him.”
Sides raced last Saturday at Red River Valley Speedway in West Fargo, N.D., where he moved forward each time he was on the track after qualifying 26th quickest. He advanced from ninth to seventh in a heat race, from fourth to second in the Last Chance Showdown and from 20th to 17th in the A Main.
“When we hot lapped we were second quick,” he said. “I think the track was good at that point. When we went out it had formed a little hole going into turn one. On the first lap I hit that and bounced and the motor stumbled. That killed our momentum. The second lap you’re trying harder because of that first lap bobble and I ended up making more mistakes. We moved forward the rest of the night, but it’s tough to overcome qualifying so far back.”
The weekend wrapped up on Sunday at Huset’s Speedway, which hosted the Pioneer Seeds Bin Buster Bash. Sides timed in 19th quickest before ending sixth in both a heat race and the Last Chance Showdown.
“I thought we were going to be good,” he said. “On the start in the heat race I got tight. We ran up the track and one car got by me. We never could get back by them. The track was kind of narrow and wet from all the rain. Maybe we should have been a little freer. Then in the B Main we freed up and were decent, but trying to get under someone for the final transfer position left the top open and that’s when someone got by for fifth.”
